Topsail Beach & Jacksonville NC Red Bird Mission trip

27 October 2008

We left Chattanooga this morning about 10:00, headed for a place that I really want to see - Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, AL!!! It's only a little over an hour from our campground, but after that, we're heading towards New Orleans, LA.

We were going to stop at the DeWitt's in Birmingham, but they've left for their winter home in south Florida, so that's out. Not a problem!

I hope to be putting up some pictures of the Ruby Falls caves later today. What else do I have to keep me busy while driving own the road?

Whew!!!! What a week it was! John did his destruction/demolition thing as part of the workteam & I cooked my little fingers of. Take a look at some of the pictures of the area we were in. It was lovely, but so poor. It was 30 miles down winding roads to the nearest regular WalMart, and another 10 to the nearest Super WalMart. There were a couple of small Mom & Pop stores along the way, and that was it.

Saturday we stayed in Knoxville for the night - not at our favorite camp, but up the road, as Escapees was full. We pulled out early Sunday morning and headed for Chattanooga. We've stopped at a nice little park attached to the Camping World here. It's shaded, has paved roads, graveled parking spaces, cement patios, and a pool - even though it's too cold to use the pool.

Tomorrow we plan on heading for Lookout Mountain and seeing Ruby Falls, as well as riding the Incline Railway. I'll let you know more about that later in the week.

Okay, so I've been a bit derelict with the blog lately. However, there just didn't seem to be anything worth bothering with - except for the kids, grandkids, the beach, the high school football games, etc.

I should be able to put some pictures up later this week, if I'm not too tired. Why should I be tired? Well - it seems we've changed our plans at the last minute again! Here's what it looks like now:

First, we decided to put the house up for rent with an agency for the next year or so. Maybe by then the market will start to pick up again.

Then we were in touch with the Hixsons from Minnesota, and found that they were headed to Red Bird Mission in Beverly, KY for a week. They asked if we would like to join them, and guess where we're headed right now! Yep - Beverly, KY.

After we leave there, we may go to Chattanooga, as we originally planned and see Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain, and some other things there.

We still plan on heading to Shotsboro, AL for the Unclaimed Luggage store, then to Birmingham to see the DeWitt's, then on to New Orleans, and finally, Texas.

I promise to get back to this later tonight or tomorrow!
